Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Summer Reading Game Night
The North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host a summer reading game night on Thursday, May 31, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Kids between the ages of 10-18 are invited to play Wii, Xbox, Playstation and more.

 

Friday, June 1

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, June 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Art Starts at the Library
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to a family-friendly start to their First Friday experience on Friday, June 1, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Indisposable: Kansas City Cultures debuts in first-floor Kirk Hall, featuring the photographs of Kansas City refugees who were handed disposable cameras and asked to document their lives or simply photograph whatever they found interesting or appealing. That’s atop two exhibits in the Central Library’s formal galleries: Ryan Wilks’ multisensory Here Where You Wish and the absorbing drawings of Lawrence, Kansas, artist Michael Krueger in There From Here, Selected Drawings 2008-2018.

As part of the city’s Art in the Loop initiative, artist David Alpert leads an exercise in writing notes to place in Library books and multi-instrumentalist Amado Espinoza and his brother Pedro Calderon provide live music. Also, the Kansas City Symphony’s Bush and Jamie Helzberg Instrument Petting Zoo sets up on the Central Library’s fifth floor.

Cliff Drive and Spirit of KC Scenic Byways grand opening
The City of Kansas City, Missouri invites the public to the grand opening of the Cliff Drive and Spirit of KC Sceninc Byways on Friday, June 1 at 3 p.m. (Paseo entrance of Cliff Drive). Come celebrate the new 1.8 mile multipurpose trail that connects Cliff Drive to the City Market. Dogs on leashes are welcome to attend.

 

 

Saturday, June 2

Wonder Woman at Central Branch
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will begin its superhero film series on Saturday, June 2 with a screening of Wonder Woman, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault. This film is rated PG-13.

 

Sunday, June 3

KC Courage women’s soccer home opener

Kansas City University groundbreaking
Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Center for Medical Innovation on Monday, June 4, beginning at 9 a.m. at its Kansas City location (1750 Independence Ave.).

Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting
The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, June 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone).

Lets Talk Art on Avenue
The Northeast Kansas Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a community call for Northeast creatives interested in helping with the Historic Northeast summer mural project on Monday, June 4, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Concourse Park (200 Benton Blvd.) Snacks will be provided, so feel free to bring friends or family along.

 

Tuesday, June 5

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!
