KC Museum Hard Hat Tour
Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Friday at 2 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.
Canvas Art Exhibit
Join the Kansas City Museum for “Kansas City Canvas: Thomas Hart Benton and Beyond.” Explore the artisan world of Thomas Hart Benton and Kansas City artists through the collection of the Kansas City Museum. As part of the 125th anniversary of Thomas Hart Benton’s birth, the Museum will be showcasing the historical life and work of this amazing artist. The Museum will be displaying such lithograph prints as Forward Pass, Benton Home and more from our collection. The Museum, through the lens of history, will also be exploring works of art from several other KC artists including works from George Caleb Bingham, James Fitzgibbon, Daniel MacMorris and the WPA art of H.L. Pierre. Each piece will be accompanied by an essay from museum staff, area historians and artists offering insights about the history, culture and art of their chosen piece. Tours begin every hour, on the hour at 10 a.m. with the last tour at 3 p.m.

Cherith Brook Roundtable: “Glimpses of the Body of Christ in the Borderlands”
This month’s roundtable forum focuses on the shape and dynamic life of the church as exile, among exiles, and as antidote to exile. Robert Hoch will join as he introduces his recent book, “By the Rivers of Babylon: Blueprints for a Church in Exile” in which he attempts to help people of faith “think church” anew through biblical and contemporary contexts of socio-political displacement. He will focus on expressions of church that emerged from his visit to the migrant trails and harsh borders of the Southwest. Save Thacher, Save Our Schools meeting
Monday, March 24th, the Save Thacher, Save Our Schools committee will meet to discuss the plan of action before appearing at the Wednesday, March 26, Kansas City School Board meeting. The public is welcome to attend both meetings. The committee meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Library, 6000 Wilson Road, and the school board meeting also begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the KCPS office, 1211 McGee St. The committee wants a large turnout to show board members they are serious about delaying the demolition of the former Thacher Elementary School, Northeast’s oldest and most historic school property.
Smithsonian Scholars Presentation
For the fourth time in five years, the Kansas City Museum brings Smithsonian Scholars to Kansas City. As part of the Smithsonian Associates program and the Museum’s Kansas City Canvas exhibit, three Smithsonian Scholars will be coming to Kansas City to discuss Thomas Hart Benton’s musical influences and present art workshops to area school children. On March 25, Leo G. Mazow, Associate Professor of American Art History in the Department of Art at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, will explore how Benton used songs as a subject matter for his artwork. With subjects taken from such classic tunes as “Jesse James,” “John Henry,” “Wreck of the Old ’97,” “I Got a Gal on Sourwood Mountain,” and “Frankie and Johnnie,” Benton found in music and lyrics an artistic subject with which he could preserve a quickly vanishing past. Mazow and vocal accompanist Brittany Stephenson will perform some of the songs that inuenced his best-known paintings. The event begins at 6 p.m. with the presentation followed by a reception at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, Union Station, 30 W Pershing Road.
Play in the Concourse
From 1- 3 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Concourse Park, join the Scarritt Neighborhood Association for an afternoon of play as they kick off their crowdfunding campaign to build a playground in Concourse Park. Come support the first phase; a hill slide.
