Killing Machine

Northeast News
July 5, 2017

Another violent weekend has come and gone in this Cowtown and the Dog isn’t one bit surprised. This past weekend seven, count ‘em seven people were killed in Kansas City. This dog wonders when it will end given we’re on track to surpass 1992’s homicide record of 153 in short order.
Kansas City, Kansas Community College Professor Dr. Ernest Evans penned an excellent piece on just how 2017 stacks up to the deadly 1992-1993 numbers last week, and this News-Dog thinks its worth more than a casual perusal. According to Evans, from July 1, 2016 to July 1, 2017, there have been 148 homicides in the city making it the third most deadly year in the city’s history. Sadly the 2017 homicide spike shows no signs of abating anytime soon.
This critically-thinking news pooch is going to keep things short and sweet this week given it’s a holiday week where everyone’s mind is on playing with illegal fireworks and dodging celebratory gunfire. How about instead of collectively wringing their hands over how to impose more gun laws to stop the violence, the County Prosecutor actually prosecutes bad guys and keeps them in jail. The Dog has recounted our personal involvement in the malfeasance on behalf of the prosecutor. That perp walks the streets of Northeast today because of her inability to effectively keep a known felon in possession of a firearm in jail.
Next up, its high time that worthless social experiment called NoVA is disbanded. That’s over 150 sworn officers that can be making a difference on the streets of this Cowtown instead of being used as tools by the prosecutor and her cronies. This dog remembers what Mean Jean said on the rollout of NoVA, that it would be at least a year before any cognitive results could be shown. That year has come and gone many times and the results are as abysmal as they ever were.
Former Police Chief Jim Corwin was known to say that “we can’t arrest our way out of this problem.” Yes you can Chief, you can arrest your way out of it and you can prosecute your way out of it. The formula is really very simple. Sadly, however, this Dog doesn’t think the concept will be embraced.
