Thursday, May 18
KCPD Memorial Ceremony
On Thursday, May 18, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department will hold a Memorial Ceremony to honor fallen officers who gave their lives in service to others. The ceremony will be held outside of KCPD headquarters, located at 1125 Locust.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, May 18, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center (1512 Van Brunt).

Northeast Farmer’s Market returns
The Northeast Farmer’s Market makes its return on Thursday, May 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue, at the intersection of Independence and Gladstone Blvd. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. The weekly market will also feature live music and a dedicated kids activity tent. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. This allows customers receiving SNAP benefits to double their EBT/SNAP dollars to purchase more fruits and vegetables (up to $25/week). Friday, May 19
Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Branch
Come out to the North-East Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, May 19 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available, and no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches can answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, May 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise.

Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk 2017
Summer is on the horizon, and that means the return of Northeast Arts KC’s Summer Dusk Concert Series. The free sunset concert series will be held on every 3rd Friday through September, in the Colonnade Building at Concourse Park from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  The series will begin on Friday, May 19 with a performance from Slim Hanson & The Poor Choices. The group is led by Beau Bledsoe, who is branching out into straight up honky tonk with his new hard country band. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and a cooler for this family-friendly event. 3rd Friday at Columbus Park
The community is invited to enjoy the art scene in Columbus Park for 3rd Fridays, to be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on May 19. Browse the galleries and pop-up porches, visit the neighborhood restaurants, and mingle with interesting and attractive people. Citizenship Prep at Central Branch
Head on out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, May 20 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Come learn the basic US history information, review USCIS’s 100 Questions, and practice the citizenship exam/interview in this free course. Advanced English skills preferred. All you need is a notebook and a pen.

Open Mosque – Masjid Al-Huda
The public is invited to the Masjid Al-Huda Center (141 S. Van Brunt, KCMO, 64123) for an Open Mosque on Saturday, May 20 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Meet your Muslim neighbors, take a tour of the Mosque, witness prayer, ask questions, and enjoy cultural food.

Sunday Movie Matinee
Head out to the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Sunday, May 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the Sunday Matinee Movie. This week’s features will be Finding Dory and Middle School. Come to the library and enjoy an afternoon movie that’s suitable for the entire family on the big screen.

Spring Walk About
The Kansas City Public Library’s North-East Branch (6000 Wilson) will host a Spring Walk About class on Monday, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The class will be held indoors, and attendees will enjoy nature scenes from around the world while they step to the beat. Visit a different place each week. Fee free to bring your pedometer, your Fitbit, or your watch, and make sure to wear comfortable shoes.

Sheffield Neighborhood Association Meeting
The next meeting of the Sheffield Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, May 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (1029 Bennington).

Story time at Central Library
Join the Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch on Tuesday, May 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. Library guests talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special. Parking is free!

Parks Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Parks Board will on Tuesday, May 23, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the KC Parks Administration building (4600 East 63rd Street Trafficway). The Board of Parks and Recreation holds public meetings twice a month on Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. All meetings start at 2 p.m. and are open to the public.

Yoga on the Rooftop at Central Library
Come enjoy Yoga on the Rooftop at Central Branch on Tuesday, May 23 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit with an hour of yoga on the downtown Central Library’s rooftop terrace. Lauren Leduc, founder and teacher of Kansas City’s Karma Tribe Yoga and the city’s best yoga instructor of 2016, as selected by readers of The Pitch, leads a class suitable for all skill levels. Participants are asked to bring their own mats and water. Wind down afterward with new friends, browse the Library for a book, or take a few minutes to take in the Central Library sights.
