KANSAS CITY, Missouri – It’s expected to be a busy weekend in the Historic Northeast. Here’s a partial list of events happening this weekend throughout the area:

Friday, March 17

Dr. Joslyn retirement celebration
Dr. Elaine Joslyn is retiring at the end of the month of  March, and a retirement celebration will be held in her honor on Friday, March 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Independence Avenue CID office (2657 Independence Ave.). Stop by to congratulate Dr. Joslyn on her nearly 23 years providing medical care to the Northeast community. Dr. Joslyn is expected to offer a few words on her retirement at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, March 18

Heartland Tree Alliance – Indian Mound tree planting

The Heartland Tree Alliance will meet at Holy Cross Catholic School at 121 N Quincy on March 18, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for the organization’s first tree planting date.
All Indian Mound residents who have been verified eligible and who have signed the watering pledge are on the roster to receive their free street tree(s) on Saturday.  However, there are still many more tree-needy places to plant in Indian Mound.  Heartland Tree Alliance hopes to organize another 30+ tree planting later this spring.

Make and Give Lap Blankets at North-East Library Branch
Come out to the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 along with members of Northeastminster Presbyterian Church to make colorful, fleece lap blankets for patients in palliative care at St. Luke’s.

St. Joseph tables, March 18 and 19
Stop on by St. Anthony’s (3208 Lexington) on Saturday, March 18 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for a viewing of the church’s St. Joseph Table. Then, after the 9:00 a.m. mass the following morning, stick around for the blessing of the table, a traditional Pasta Milanese meal, and to purchase your cannolis and cookies. Additionally, Holy Rosary (910 Pacific) will have their St. Joseph’s Table open for viewing from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. on March 18, following 4:00 p.m. mass. Pasta will be served on March 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Sunday, March 19

Indian Mound volunteer work day
The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host a volunteer work day in its community garden (5415 St. John Ave.) on Sunday, March 19, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Renting a raised bed for 2017 costs $10.
