Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Friday, November 4
Northeast Fit-Mix
Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, November 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness class. The class alternates between chair fitness techniques and the new “Soul-Flo” yoga activities. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise in these courses at the North-East Public Library.

Knights of Columbus Dinner/Bingo
Join the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 at St. Anthony’s (3208 Lexington)  for dinner and bingo on the night of Friday, November 4. A dinner of a fried half chicken, mashed potatoes and cole slaw with be available from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for $10. For dark meat only, the cost is $8. Coffee is included; drinks and desserts also available. Bingo will run from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Computer Class–general
Learn about navigating your computer in this class, which offers insight into hardware and software components. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library.

KC Museum’s KCFD history exhibit now open
The Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) is now presenting In the Line of Duty: A History of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department from 1868-1968, an exhibition that explores stories of courage and dedication that comprise the heritage and development of the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department (KCFD). From its humble beginnings in the late 1800s to international fame, and from technological triumphs to tragic losses, the KCFD has over 100 years of proud service to its community.

Special collection set for November 5
The City of Kansas City, Missouri has orchestrated a special collection event on Saturday, November 5 at Manual Career Tech Center (1320 Truman Road), from 8:00 a.m. until noon. During that event, area residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of tires, paint, brush, small appliances, electronics, building materials, glass and clothing. Proof of residency will be required.

BikeWalk KC – Kansas City Tweed Ride
BikeWalk KC’s 7th annual Kansas City Tweed Ride will take place on Saturday, November 5, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Cliff Drive in Kessler Park. Riders are encouraged to dress in turn of the century clothing, including wools, tweeds, silks, and argyles. Riders and their machines will be judged and awarded prizes based on appearance, authenticity, originality, and creativity. Riders will stop at the Kansas City Museum for live music and prizes, so don’t forget to pack a lunch. The cost to attend is a suggested donation of $15 for an individual, $25 for couples, or $35 for families.

North-East Book Club
Stop by the North-East Public Library on Sunday, November 6 form 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. for the next North-East Book Club meeting. This event is for adults.

Veterans Day Salute at Truman Library
Come out to the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum (500 U.S. Highway 24) on Sunday, November 6 from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. for a Veterans Day Salute. The event will feature a patriotic concert, a military vehicle display, free gifts for vets, and a Q&A with Doug Bradley, the author of We Gotta Get Out of This Place, a chronicle of the soundtracks of the Vietnam War. The meet and greet and book signing with Bradley will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting
The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, November 7, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone).

‘Shall We Wake the President?’ at Central Library
Join the Central Library at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7 for an event that will look into how presidents have handled crisis while in office. At this event, presidential historian and former White House aide Tevi Troy examines the evolving role of the president in dealing with calamity and assesses how well or badly many have performed in his new book Shall We Wake the President? Two Centuries of Disaster Management from the Oval Office. On the eve of the election of a new president, he joins Steve Edwards, executive director of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics and a native Kansas Citian, in a public conversation about the book and the issue.

Story time at Central Library
Join the Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch on Tuesday, November 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. Library guests talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special. Parking is Free!

Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association meeting
The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 8, from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences,1750 Independence Avenue.

Blue Valley Kiwanis Club Chili Day dinner
Everyone is invited to participate in Blue Valley Kiwanis Club’s 2016 Chili Day fundraiser on Thursday, November 17 at the Salvation Army building at 6618 Truman Road. Members of the Kiwanis Club will serve chili from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost $7, and include all you can eat chili, dessert & beverages! Carry-out is also available.

Scarritt Coffee Club Monthly Gathering
Scarritt Renaissance Coffee Club will host its next  Coffee Club from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12 at the home of Kenny Snell and Barbara Brede. The next Lykins Neighborhood meeting will be held on Monday, November 14, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 3704 E. 12th St. Join Lykins neighbors as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups, and focus on creating a better community. Other neighborhoods in Historic Northeast are more than welcome to join.
