Ever wonder what happened to those codes violations you’ve entered in the city’s online mapping system from the 3-1-1 Action Center? This dog wonders too, especially since no less than three cases have been opened up against this ramshackle excuse for a building (see above) that more and more area squatters are calling “home” these days. While this might be the more prominent location, there are five such flop houses within a block of this one, all of which are occupied by an odd assortment of squatters, druggies, parolees and scrappers who directly and negatively impact the quality of life for neighbors in a major way.

Roughly three weeks ago, KCPD officers landed on the house and arrested a registered sex offender who was squatting in the structure courtesy of its owner, who owns a number of structures like this, predominantly on the city’s Eastside. This dog opened up a “board up” case against this property in the first week of February on the advice of a Kansas City first responder who indicated the city was “fast tracking” all board up cases involving vacant structures.

But when we went back in the city’s online 3-1-1 Action Center mapping system, there was no record of the board up case we opened. All of this leads this dog to believe that it’s pretty easy to jones up the numbers on closed and solved case stats when there’s no record of cases like this even being filed.

Also, we’re not sure of the city’s definition of “fast tracking,” but it sure doesn’t fit this dog’s definition, especially when the case disappears. POOF. Just like magic. Meanwhile, the ongoing parade of criminals, scrappers and druggies come and go freely, leaving a trail of waste, trash and ill will. It’s all about the neighborhoods, right?
