Light up the neighborhood. The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association leaders awarded the winners of their inaugural Holiday Light Competition. The neighborhood association collected donations from local businesses and organizations, which included cash, a gift card coffee and a book written by a local author. They asked neighborhood residents to vote for their favorite house on the Indian Mound Facebook page. Manny Abarca, VP of the IMNA, said “we believe that by focusing on the positive things happening in our neighborhood, we may incite a ripple effect: neighbors helping neighbors, becoming friends, uniting block after block, even if over nothing more then a beautiful holiday light display. When neighbors care about each other and their properties, things will continue to change, and we are hoping that by encouraging beauty and the spirit of the holidays, our neighborhood will continue to move forward and shift the balance away from crime and instead to the sentiments the holidays are all about.”
