Book of Revelation explained

For 12 weeks, from Wednesday, March 18, to Wednesday, June 3, Dr. George Westlake Jr., Pastor Emeritus of the Sheffield Family Life Center, 5700 Winner Road, will be teaching the book of Revelations during Family night at the center. The classes run from 7 – 8:30 p.m. and feature services and programs for every member of the family.

Divining the Museum: Visions of Past, Present, and Future

The Kansas City Museum’s new, temporary exhibition features Kansas City artists and students of the Kansas City Art Institute curated by Max Adrian and Paige Beltowski. This exhibition showcases contemporary artwork including installations, sculpture, ceramics, and photography alongside original objects from the Museum’s collection. Exhibition tours are free and will be available on the hour from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, May 7-30, and Wednesday-Saturday, June 3-13. Please note that the last tour starts at 3:00 p.m.

Take Five

Join the Kansas City Museum and Potluck Productions from 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21, as they present “Take Five,” a performance showcasing five short plays written by area women playwrights and read by professional actors. Tickets are $5 per person and include a dessert reception from 7-7:30 p.m. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. “Take Five” is directed by Glendora Davis and produced by Mary Beth Gordon, Nancy Parks, Lezlie Revelle, and Joyce Slater. Memorial Day Weekend at the National World War One Museum

Join the World War One Museum during Memorial Day Weekend. The museum offers more than 10 events during the course of the weekend, including the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall, an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. measuring nearly 400 feet long. The AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall, supported by UMB Bank, will be accessible on the afternoon of Friday, May 22, including a 6 p.m. opening ceremony, through the 2:30 p.m. closing ceremony on Monday, May 25. The Museum will offer free admission to the public on Memorial Day (May 25) courtesy of Lead Bank. The public ceremony at 10 a.m. features officials, dignitaries and patriotic performances. Sponsored by the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, Immanuel Chin Christian Church, MissionKC and Temple Hosanna Christians, BBQ on the Boulevard is a free event that will feature bounce houses, raffles, free food and more. Microbrew and BBQ fest

The Kansas City Microbrews and BBQ Festival has chosen the iconic Corinthian Hall at the Kansas City Museum for their 2015 Festival, currently scheduled to run from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday, May 30. General admission tickets are $40 and V.I.P. tickets are $50. VIP attendees receive early access to the event at 12:30 p.m. with beer sampling beginning at 1 p.m. Local Pig and KC BBQ Truck will be serving up delicious BBQ before, during, and after the KC Microbrews and BBQ Festival so feel free to arrive early or stay late to eat and watch the racing action. Kansas City Museum Summer Concert Series

Join the Kansas City Museum for its next concert, with a performance by Whiskey for the Lady, from 7 – 9 p.m. Friday, June 12. Whiskey for the Lady is a melting pot of eclectic styles and wildly opposite personalities that attract a diverse audience from punk rockers to old-time bluegrass-lovers. This foot stoopin’ “newgrass” includes Phil on mandolin and lead vocals; Animal on bass; Mallory on fiddle; Ricky D on banjo; Frank on guitar, and Ike G on percussion.

Serengeti Steve at the North-East Library

Join North-East Public Library at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, for a performance from Serengeti Steve. Serengeti Steve performs over 600 shows a year throughout the country and has been featured as a Las Vegas finalist on NBC’s hit show “America’s Got Talent.” His talents have even earned him a place in the famous “Guinness Book of World Records.” Although Steve’s love of all animals is high on the list, his first love and driving force will always be entertaining the children and adults attending his performances. Steve’s greatest asset is his ability to combine a thrilling yet comical presentation which involves audience participation.
