KANSAS CITY, Missouri — To show its appreciation for area veterans and the men and women who are currently serving, every Wednesday during the summer is “Military Appreciation Day” at all Jackson County Parks and Recreation locations.

The department will offer complimentary admissions to Jackson County beaches, historic sites at Missouri Town and Fort Osage, complimentary boat rides at the marinas and green fees at the Fred Arbanas Golf Course. Complimentary admissions are granted through Veteran’s Day to anyone presenting a valid military identification card, veteran identification card or any other appropriate identification.

This program is the start of Jackson County’s “Salute to Veterans” during 2014. The county will also honor veterans at a ceremony at the National Airline History Museum, 201 NW. Lou Holland Drive, on Flag Day, June 14. During the ceremony, veterans will have the opportunity to ride in a B-25 airplane, which was built at the Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, Kan., during World War II.
