KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Jackson County grand jury cleared a Kansas City, Mo., police officer involved in a shooting the evening of Dec. 1, 2013.
The officer, who was responding to an assault call at a downtown hotel, was attempting to arrest firefighter Anthony Bruno. Bruno struggled and resisted arrest when the officer shot Bruno with his service weapon. The jury returned a verdict of “No True Bill” meaning no charges will be filed and the case will be concluded.
In a press release, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker thanked the jury for their service and noted the matter was a “great tragedy for the Bruno family and all others touched by this incident.” She continued by asking for privacy for both families. Grand jury proceedings are confidential and Peters-Baker indicated there would be no further comment on the matter.
