KCPS to discuss draft attendance boundaries during public meetings

Northeast News
January 6, 2014

UPDATE: KCPS sent an email Jan. 8 stating that these two meetings have been cancelled. The Facilities Master Plan process has been postponed in order to focus more on student achievement, according to KCPS officials. The planning process has been postponed until this summer/fall.

Kansas City Public Schools is hosting another round of meetings regarding the Facilities Master Plan. The five-year plan provides a guide for capital improvement decisions and ensures that facility investments promote academic achievement.

The plan examines the condition of current facilities and determines which facilities need improvements to improve the learning environment of students. In addition, the Facilities Master Plan identifies financing strategies and opportunities for partnering with other entities.

As part of the plan, attendance boundaries will also be assessed and re-drawn.

The next public meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Paseo Academy, 4747 Flora, Kansas City, Mo. Another meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Manual Career and Technical Center, 1215 E. Truman Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Both meetings will include draft school boundary options and opportunities for community feedback. The sessions will also feature an outline of the Capital Improvement Plan and options for financing facility improvements in the future. All are invited to attend.
