After listening to public feedback and conducting additional traffic studies, Public Works Department officials gave the green light for installing a pedestrian signal at the corner of St. John and Quincy.

City crews installed the new signal Feb. 19 and activated it the same day. The signal is located near Holy Cross Catholic School, Holy Cross Parish and is across the street from Budd Park. Pedestrians regularly cross at that intersection.

The previous traffic signal, which also served as a pedestrian signal, was deactivated in October and changed to flash yellow. The new signal, known as a HAWK (High-intensity Activated crossWalK), will remain unlit unless a pedestrian pushes the crosswalk button. Once the button is pushed, the light will flash yellow, then red, to signal the traffic to stop.
