A Jackson County judge has sentenced a second suspect in the botched robbery and murder of Northeast real estate Agent Yuri Ives.
Nineteen year-old Zachary Kimbrell was sentenced Friday afternoon to eight years in prison for his role in the 2011 crime that left Ives dead. Kimbrell had pleaded guilty earlier to second degree robbery and armed criminal action for his role in the crime. His accomplice, Ali Cubba, was sentenced in October and is currently beginning a 15-year sentence in prison.
Cubba and Kimbrell conspired to rob Ives but the plan went awry, and Ives was shot with his own .44 magnum revolver, then stabbed numerous times. The murder weapon was found in Cubba’s bedroom. Both men were students at Oak Park High School, and according to witness reports, returned to school the next day as if nothing happened.
