Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the more than 100-year-old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, Mo., will host the free tours on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Check out North-East Public Library’s story time and craft, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library. This story time group promotes literacy in children with the participation of caring family members.

New Year’s Celebration at American Jazz Museum
The American Jazz Museum will host a New Year’s Celebration and Guitar Summit beginning at 8 p.m. in the Blue Room at 18th and Vine. Featured guitarists are Will Matthews, Danny Embrey and Wayne Goins with special guest vocalist Stephanie Moore. The event will also include door prizes, party favors, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar. Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood meeting
Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. The agenda will include board elections and a discussion of scheduling a meeting with the city manager in the next year, as well as conducting a meeting with the county prosecutor and KCPD leadership.

Pendleton Heights Neighborhood meeting
Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the library of the Don Bosco Center located at Independence and Garfield. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for coffee and casual conversation. The meeting agenda will begin at 7 p.m.
Literacy Tutor Training Series
Literacy Kansas City is looking for more volunteers to tutor students from Penn Valley Community College who need to improve their reading and writing skills before they can enroll in regular college courses. Penn Valley tutors will meet their students at Penn Valley CC twice a week for 90 minutes; other tutors meet students at libraries or other public places throughout the greater metropolitan area for a minimum of one year. Literacy KC will begin its literacy tutor training series on Jan. 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the American Red Cross building, 211 W. Armour Blvd. Upcoming training will be held on Jan. 11, 17, 18 and Feb. 21 and 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Chamber After Hours at H&R Block
Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will host its next after hours event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at H&R Block, 5029 Independence Ave., on Thursday, Jan. 12. The chamber is kicking off the tax season with food and prizes. Bring your business cards.
KC Museum Hard Hat Tour
Take a 90 minute tour of Corinthian Hall, the more than 100-year-old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family, with Kansas City Museum Director Christopher Leitch. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will examine 100-year-old craftsmanship, see the ornate salon and library and view the exquisite stained glass windows. The tour will be held Jan. 15 at 12:30 p.m. for ages 12 and older.
