KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Kansas City, Mo., has announced dates for collection and drop-off of leaves and brush.

Drop-off

The city’s three leaf and brush drop-off centers -11660 N. Main St., 1815 N. Chouteau Trafficway and 10301 Raytown Road – re-opened 8 a.m. Friday, March 15. The centers provide residents with the opportunity to recycle yard waste as well as pick-up discounted mulch. The centers are also equipped to handle trees that have been affected by the emrald ash borer.

All three centers are open and free to use by residents on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Residents may also use the Chouteau Trafficway and Main Street sites from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday for a small fee.

When bagging leaves and brush to deliver at a drop-off site, city officials ask you follow the rules. Rules for using the drop-off sites include providing proof of residency, only dropping off leaves, yard waste and brush and using paper sacks for all collections.

If you see anyone dumping at these sites during off hours, report the information to the 311 call center at 816-513-1313.

Collection

The city has also announced its springtime curbside leaf and brush collection will take place from April 14 – May 2. Residents who live in the city’s central zone – which includes residents who live between the Missouri River south to 63rd Street – will receive collection beginning the week of April 21, 2014.

On regularly scheduled trash collection days, residents may place up to 20 bags of leaves and brush along with trash. Residents are asked to follow collection rules when placing bags along with trash. The rules include: bags must not weigh more than 40 pounds, only use paper lawn bags and if you must seal your bags, use masking tape. No grass clippings, all branches must be bundled and if wet weather is forecasted, cover bags with a plastic.

Last fall, water services collected more than 2,300 tons of leaf debris, which, city officials say could have otherwise been dumped or washed into area streams and rivers. For more information on collection and drop-off programs, call 816-513-1313 or visit www.kcwaterservices.org/leaf-brush.
