The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT)  reminded residents of the Kansas City metro that the Kansas Department of Transportation will be working to open the newly replaced Lewis and Clark Viaduct bridge this weekend.

“While this is not a MoDOT project, the work will have impacts to drivers on the Missouri side,” MoDOT shared on Facebook. “The following lanes and ramps will be closed intermittently from 5 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, until 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan 25. All work is weather permitting.

Westbound I-70 will be closed past Broadway Boulevard, in the northwest corner of the downtown loop, to Third Street in Kansas City, Kan. for bridge replacement.

Current long-term closures include ramps from Fifth Street, Beardsley Road, Independence Avenue at Delaware Avenue and I-35 to Westbound I-70 in Missouri. Ramps from Westbound I-70 to Minnesota Avenue, Washington Boulevard, and Fairfax Trafficway are also closed.

• Westbound I-70 from the I-29/I-35/U.S. 71 jct. to the I-35/I-70 split.

• Southbound I-35 ramp to westbound I-70

• Northbound Broadway St. ramp to westbound I-70

• Southbound 9 Hwy. ramp to westbound I-70

• Independence Ave./24 Hwy. ramp to westbound I-70

• Northbound 71 Hwy. ramp to westbound I-70.

With spring still several months away, MoDOT is already looking ahead with the hopes of adding at least 50 new Maintenance Workers to its workforce. 

 MoDOT’s Human Resource Department announced it will be hiring 50 full-time maintenance operators in Jackson, Clay, Platte, Ray, Lafayette, Saline, Johnson, Cass, and Pettis counties. 

The hiring effort is to ensure that MoDOT has plenty of capable and dependable personnel to help maintain the 7,670 lane miles across the Kansas City District, during the spring and summer months.  

 Full-time employees will receive training and other benefits including retirement, paid leave, medical, vision and dental insurance.

MoDOT requires maintenance worker applicants to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma and successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening.
