Thanks to a watchful neighbor, two suspects have now been arrested for burglarizing a home April 2 in the Pendleton Heights neighborhood.

Kansas City police are continuing to investigate whether or not the suspects are connected to other recent burglaries in the neighborhood.

From January to March, 11 burglaries occurred in the neighborhood and mostly small electronics like laptops were targeted. During one burglary, a surveillance camera captured one of the suspects on video and Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association board members emailed a screen shot of the footage to area residents.

“We just love that the neighborhood is stepping up to the plate and helping us watch out for each other,” Detective Laura Snapp said. “That helps us get these guys in custody.”

On April 2, a neighbor called 911 to alert police of a break-in in a nearby house on Elma and officers canvassed the area for the two male suspects. One of the witnesses included a mail carrier who witnessed the two males carry a television down the street. Officers located the suspects at an apartment complex at 2300 E. 9th, but did not recover the television.

Charges have been filed on Terry Wiley, 17, of Kansas City, Mo., and charges are pending for the other 19-year-old suspect.
