KANSAS CITY, Missouri — As a non-profit, the Don Bosco Centers has to occasionally ask for help.

Last week, a company graciously offered its services.

Courtesy of Toyo Tires, the Don Bosco Centers received a $5,000 check and a set of Toyo Celsius variable-conditions tires to assist with the safe and reliable delivery of critical meals and safety checks to Kansas City homebound seniors regardless of snow and ice. In partnership with Meals on Wheels of America, Toyo Tires has committed to equip centers like the Don Bosco Senior Center with tires in select markets across the country this fall as they prepare for upcoming harsh winter condition. The Don Bosco Centers was one of 14 recipients of the check and tires.

Mo Orpin, executive director of the Don Bosco Centers, said this donation is huge for them. Currently, the center serves just under 300 with the Meals on Wheels program in the greater Kansas City area. Between that program and meals cooked for seniors at the center, they serve about 650 meals a day.

“As a not-for-profit, we count on the generosity of people and companies to help us,” Orpin said.

Orpin was especially excited about the four new tires. Out of the eight vehicles currently in use, only one was in need of new tires.

“With winter coming, that was important,” Orpin said.
