Well the secret is out, and the dog told you so after the last streetcar expansion vote. Toy Train Streetcar proponents said despite the resounding no vote on streetcar expansion, it was just a minor setback. Kansas City will have light rail and you’ll enjoy it by golly; public debt, basic infrastructure needs, and bond rating be damned!
Thanks to The Star’s Steve Kraske for leaking the news last Thursday, we’re much obliged. This should give those light rail zealots time to really put things together for an even bigger rigged vote to take more money from your pocket for a mode of transportation that vanished from city streets in 1957 while basic, boring infrastructure needs go deferred for yet another year. And how will this expansion plan happen? With more federal money of course.
Just so everyone is on the same page here with this “federal money” streetcar zealots keep bandying about like its free money. Note to you Bernie Sanders Economists who think that this “federal money” grows on trees; federal money is taxpayer money. It’s money we the people pay to the government. Translation: it’s your money. We’ll let that sink in for a minute. Put into perspective, this plan, as well as any plan advanced that has “federal money,” is nothing more than the federal government bribing municipalities with money that’s not theirs to begin with. Is this all starting to make sense? Additionally, just remember that the whole approach to this is based on emotion, not fact. That’s how the Liberal agenda works! Never mind the statistical and factual analysis, it’s all about the warm fuzzy feeling you get, much like Mr. Kraske got when he got off the streetcar.
Note to Steve and his loyal readers, it’s not “cool” if it costs taxpayers out the wazoo while basic infrastructure needs continue to go unmet. Anyone taken a drive down Morrell Avenue between Monroe and Jackson lately? How bout some basic infrastructure work on that pitiful excuse for a city street.
This dog is hoping that the citizenry of this city will see the soon to be announced new and improved streetcar expansion for the folly that it is and tell the Mayor and Council to please, please focus on basic infrastructure needs instead.
