Things are certainly looking festive up at the Kansas City Museum and the surrounding environs.

Scarritt Renaissance residents Michael Stringer and Jason Milbrandt not only decorated up Corinthian Hall this year, but also extended their festive garlands to the Benton Circle and the Anderson Avenue Bridge on Gladstone Boulevard.

This li’l newspooch would like to offer up some festive thanks for a job well done!

Hopefully next year the parks department can bring the Christmas lights back to the Colonnade just like the old days.

In the vein of the old adage that common sense isn’t so common anymore, some recent reports on developments involving the possible re-purposing of Thacher Elementary and the old Northeast Junior High School noted that demolition was a possibility for these two stately and historic structures to make way for “new” development.

This preservation minded canine doesn’t take kindly to history being razed and forgotten for the sole purpose of lining a developer’s pockets. Re-purposing doesn’t mean demolishing a major piece of historic fabric of a community.

This doggie has long championed the idea that the new Northeast Community Center should be located at this site, using the old Thacher building as the primary structure.

The district wanted to knock down Thacher about 15 years back and local preservationists rallied to save the building.

Here’s hoping those same folks can circle the wagons and save a vital piece of Northeast history.
