This week, we take a look at the lobby of the Brookside Hotel located at 54th Street and Brookside Boulevard.

The old Brookside Hotel was built in 1918 and officially opened for business in October, 1919. It is said that the hotel was much like Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel on Lake Michigan. During World War II, the facility was used by the Army Air Corps to house officers attending Rockhurst College.

In 1962, the property was acquired by St. Paul School of Theology and was used as housing for married students. The University of Missouri – Kansas City bought the hotel in 1966, re-naming it Treadway Hall, an early benefactor of the University. The building sat vacant for some years and in 2004 underwent a complete restoration and renovation, re-opening as the Crestwood Condominiums.

The description on the back of the card states: “Brookside Hotel, Lobby View. Located in the beautiful residential Country Club District, adjacent to the famous Plaza shopping district and convenient to all Kansas City points of interest. Large spacious guest rooms are beautifully appointed and our moderate daily rates include continental breakfast, air conditioning, parking, radios, TV Lounge and beautifully landscaped grounds.”
