Police on Friday evening apprehended a man in connection with a rape that occurred on Dec. 15. Ramone D. Winters, 30, was charged in Jackson County court with five counts of forcible sodomy, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, forcible rape and attempted forcible sodomy.
Winters is no stranger to the judicial system. In 2007 he was convicted of the rape of a Northeast woman that occurred in 2000. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
In this case, Winters, wearing black sweat pants, black coveralls and a black hooded jacket, accosted a woman in her 10th Street apartment and repeatedly raped and sodomized her over a three-hour period. Following the attack, Winters allegedly photographed the woman with a cell phone and demanded money. As he left the woman’s apartment, he reportedly told the woman if she went to police, he would return and kill her.
“This day didn’t happen,” said Winters, according to court documents.
Winters is being held in the Jackson County jail on a $500,000 cash only bond.
