The exercise in futility that is street sweeping in this town was elevated to a new level of stupidity Friday when a street sweeper plied its way up St. John Avenue in the middle of a rain storm.
Street sweeping in this town is still a mystery, given it has been done in such a haphazard and inconsistent manner. No postcards are sent to residents telling them to park on the opposite side of the street on days when sweeping activities are taking place, leaving the sweeper to dodge in and out of traffic, leaving an irregular path up the street. Often, the street is dirtier after the sweeper comes through, as all manner of litter, debris and residue are left in the wake of said sweeper.
We’d like to offer up one more reason to keep Northeast High School open, aside from the obvious reasons that have been brought forward and discussed in the public and online forums.
Historic Northeast is the only community that still has a community weekly newspaper dedicated to covering community news in the area that is served by Northeast High School. No other community within the confines of the Kansas City, Mo., School District, can even come close to making that argument. The newsies here at the House of News are dedicated to keeping our community informed of news that happens in our community, including news from Northeast High School.
