KANSAS CITY, Missouri – After announcing the closure of nearly 20 percent of its stores, the fate of the Independence Avenue Radioshack is up in the air.
On Tuesday, March 4, Radioshack announced it would close about 1,100 poorly performing stores across the country. Whether or not the Radioshack at 4015 Independence Ave., is on that list has not yet been determined.
According to a RadioShack spokesperson, there are no current plans to release a store closing list at this time. However, the spokesperson added RadioShack will “maintain market coverage as part of this plan, with over 4,000 U.S. stores in the RadioShack footprint.” Currently, the company has around 5,200 in operation.
As of Dec. 31, 2013, Radioshack had 97 stores in Missouri, eight in Kansas City, Mo. The spokesperson also declined to comment on a deadline for the store closures or say how many employees could be affected. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
