Since its inception in 1986, the Sugar Creek Slavic festival has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for civic improvement projects in Sugar Creek. The festival, now in its 29th year, was a resounding success this year with the crowning of a new Miss Czech-Slovak Missouri, Independence, Mo. native Gaby Salva, and a new Kielbasa King, Sean McKenzie. He reclaimed the title this year after losing out last year to a female contestant from out of state. Despite questionable weather conditions, the festival went off without a hitch.
