Independence Avenue CID Ambassadors compete in a skillet cook off on Thursday as part of the MU Extension Center’s Healthy Eating initiative. Participants cooked pineapple veggie chicken as part of the exercise.
This program is a precursor to a program that will be rolled out in October through the public library where five area families can pick up meal kits each week at the library, ready to cook for their family.
“This is a great way for our team members to learn to operate as more of a team,” said CID CEO Bobbi Baker-Hughes.
Monica Miller, with the MU Extension Center organized the event and offered verbal instructions via Zoom to the two teams.
“We want to help families on a limited budget learn to cook healthier foods and adopt a healthier lifestyle,” Miller said.
In the end, on a 3-2 ballot, Team Joe, on the left, carried the day with a spirited, sweet and spicy chicken pineapple dish. Yum!
