KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A shooting late Monday afternoon on North Belmont, which may be the result of a rolling gun battle, has sent at least one person to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Officers responded to the area of St. John and Topping Avenues after reports of shots fired at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5. The call was updated by dispatchers to the area near Scarritt Avenue and Belmont Boulevard. The victim was transported to North Kansas City hospital by his girlfriend, who was also in the car at the time of the shooting. Witness reported hearing almost twenty gunshots in the area of North Wheeling and North White Avenues. Another witness, who asked to remain nameless, was on his way to feed the Indian Mound chickens reported seeing a man falling out of a vehicle near a small parking area on Belmont near Super Flea. That vehicle, believed to be the victim’s, then left the scene northbound on Chouteau Trafficway.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a silver or grey BMW, occupied by three Hispanic males and was last seen speeding northbound on Wheeling Avenue. When officers responded to the area, a large number of shell casings were recovered in the area of North Belmont Boulevard and Scarritt Avenue. The victim’s name has not been released by police. The investigation is ongoing.
