Thanks to Britt and Susan Carpenter of Independence, MO for donating this picture of the Sheffield Steel Plant circa 1959 or 1960. The photo was taken prior to the construction of I-435 and clearly shows the plant, all of the outbuildings, the unaltered Blue River channel and US-24 highway bisecting the mill complex. Both Britt and Susan had family that worked in the plant. This picture will be donated to the Northeast Kansas City Historical Society.
