KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The saying goes it takes a village to raise a child.
Well everyone in the Northeast community is invited to see how area children will be raised with the opening of a new school.
Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School will celebrate the completion of a goal set years ago with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the new SVN Charter School site, 535 Garfield Ave. The ceremony will mark the official opening of the school’s new facility. The ceremony is open to the public and will be followed by refreshments and tours of the school.
Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School was founded in 1999 by the Honorable Charles Shangler as a way to provide local families with educational opportunities and exposure to the arts. Since its formation 15 years ago, the school has expanded to serve a greater number of students and currently offers kindergarten through eighth grade, while being committed to providing a safe, healthy, collaborative community of engaged learners who are inspired academically and by fostering a supportive network for its families.
Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School has been outgrowing its current location at 544 Wabash Ave., for many years now. In 2013, the school purchased the former Don Bosco Community Center and has been renovating the site over the last year in for the beginning the 2014-2015 school year. The design and development of the new school site continues SVN Charter School’s vision of being a positive, engaged member of the community and being recognized statewide as one of the top ten charter schools in academic performance.
The school believes the new facility will enable it to better serve the community by providing students with an innovative facility for fostering learning and by being able to expand the number of students served. The school looks forward to building and growing meaningful relationships with the surrounding community and invites the public to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and learn more about what all is going on at SVN Charter School.
