The city of Kansas City, Mo., warned restaurant owners and other area business owners this past week of a new scam that has recently appeared in Kansas City.
Five different food establishments contacted the city’s Health Department with concerns about a caller identifying himself as a Health Department inspector and requesting security access codes and other confidential information.
The Health Department does not call in advance to schedule routine inspections and does not request confidential information over the phone. A Health Department inspector would carry visible identification — a badge.
If you are contacted by this person, or believe that you have recently been fraudulently contacted by this person and provided information, please contact the police department or the Missouri Attorney General’s office.
