The Kansas City Museum is bringing RUBEO’s brand of charming electro-pop to the east lawn for a free concert this evening (June 8) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Attendees are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnic supplies and furry friends (in a designated dog area) to the museum’s lawn for some dance-friendly, 80s-invoking tracks from the mind of Joe Rubeo, who performs under the moniker RUBEO.

“Dogs are welcome, it’s free to attend, weather looks great, the lawn looks awesome,” said Paul Gutierrez, Recreation Director at the Kansas City Museum. “So come on down.”

As for RUBEO’s music? Gutierrez caught a recent performance and was drawn to the nostalgic vibes.

“It kind of reminded me of the soundtrack to Stranger Things,” said Gutierrez. “Something about it was intriguing to me.”

Moving forward, the Museum will sponsor additional free summer concerts in July and August. With construction continuing at Corinthian Hall, however, the venues will change for those events. On July 13, the Kansas City Museum will invite singer-songwriter and loop artist Erica McKenzie to perform at Garment District Place Park (W. 8th St. and Washington St.), right next to the Museum’s ancillary location at 800 Broadway.

The last summer concert will take place on August 10 at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center (3700 Blue Pkwy, KCMO). The artist for that concert has yet to be booked, though the Kansas City Museum is currently considering potential acts.

“We were told to be off the property in the month of July,” said Gutierrez. “We’re going to sprinkle the love to different locations around the city.”
