Alvin Brooks says we need more medical research in Jackson County, and he wants you to pay for it. This crafty news-dog says not so fast, mister – we’re tapped out on taxes and we don’t need any more!
Been quite a bit of brew ha ha about this initiative, too, complete with TV and print ads that in short are nothing more than a parade of victims spewing all sorts of scary rhetoric designed to make you punch the ‘Yes’ button on Nov. 5.
Bunny the Newshound recommends ignoring all that pro-tax hyperbole and punching the ‘No’ button in a big way. This tax is nothing more than another poorly thought out scheme devised by some heavy hitters in town who think they need more money in their coffers, all in the name of “medical research”. Lately though, there are some well-known power players putting some pretty good distance between this tax and their name; the Kansas City Business Journal and the Citizen’s Association are two who are strongly opposed to said tax. The Business Journal even reversed its pro-tax position and is now lobbying against the taxes passage.
This newshound also wants to know why there’s been no public opportunity for comment or review on this, either. It’s a rush to the ballot box that’s why, and this news-canine says enough is enough. With the county’s crumbling infrastructure, the last thing we need is another incremental and regressive sales tax that won’t do anything to directly stimulate the local economy. Think about this long and hard kids, this thing stinks to high heaven and deserves to be thoroughly trounced next Tuesday.
