Early Sunday morning, just after midnight, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Independence Avenue and Ewing Avenue when the suspect vehicle came towards the officers.

According to the department, fearing for their life, officers discharge their firearms.

The suspect vehicle continued to flee and officers who were in the area pursued the vehicle. The suspect vehicle stopped just east of 12th and Winchester Avenue.

The suspect, an adult male, ran from the vehicle and officers pursued the suspect on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers took the suspect into custody.

The suspect was not struck by gunfire. EMS responded to the scene, medically cleared the suspect and released the suspect back into police custody.

KCPD detectives will be handling the investigation and they have responded to the scene. Crime Scene Personnel have responded to the scene and they will be processing the scene for evidence.
