One man is dead after being shot near a homeless camp in Indian Mound. On Wednesday, officers identified the victim as 45-year-old John Ritter.
Monday night, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to St. John and Belmont in regard to a shooting.
Upon arrival they were flagged down by someone who directed them to the victim. According to police, the victim was located in the area to the east near a homeless camp. Neighbors say the shooting took place behind the BP service station at that intersection.
The victim, an adult male, had been shot and was unresponsive. Officers began CPR at that time. EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene and were canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for evidence.
