From a display of hand-stitched quilts to an upside-down Christmas tree, the 15th Annual Pendleton Heights Holiday Homes Tour offered an enjoyable look at one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, six homes highlighted their unique architecture with festive holiday decorations. From an 1893 brick Victorian with updated kitchen and baths to a 1960 brick ranch, each home offered historic elements mingled with modern features and decor.

Still in the process of restoration and updates, a former storefront at 413 Park is now home to a family of three, which decorates the exposed ductwork of the first floor with garland and ornaments, while the tree hangs from the ceiling as well.

Tour attendees were challenged with a scavenger hunt to locate a Snoopy ornament hidden at each home — with docents stamping booklets and offering hints. A fully stamped page indicating all six Snoopy’s were found was good for a treat at PH Coffee (2200 Lexington Ave.) afterward.

At Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School (525 Garfield Ave.) dozens of quilts were on display — all products of members of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild. The exhibit titled ‘Pieces of Home,’ featured quilts with Christmas and home themes, along with abstract designs.

Northeast Community Center, home of Harmony Project KC, offered student concerts throughout the afternoon. This center at 525 Wabash offers after school music lessons and instruments free of charge to those who qualify.

Funds generated through ticket sales are funneled back into the community and sponsor free events throughout the year for Northeast residents, along with continued improvements to their community garden and orchard spaces.
