One person is dead and another suffering life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle collision at Independence Avenue and the Wilson Avenue railroad bridge Thursday at approximately 12:56 p.m.
According to Kansas City Police Department, a black Pontiac Grand Am was see driving erratically at a high rate of speed westbound on Independence Avenue. The driver lost control and hit multiple concrete pillars and the concrete wall, causing the car to burst into flames.
Debris from the accident was strewn at least 75 yards away and the impact was so strong, the engine was torn from the vehicle.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. One female passenger received 3rd degree burns and was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
