Northeast Middle School (NEMS) and Northeast High School (NEHS) joined forces Aug. 15 to host its annual Rock the Block. This back-to-school event gave students and their families opportunities to receive school supplies and their schedule for the school year. Educational organizations — including Revolution Educativa and the Mattie Rhodes Center — set up tables allowing attendees to receive information about their programs.
Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) additionally attended this event. The partnership between Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) and VILS allows students at NEMS to receive iPads with internet access — granting students home-internet accessibility.
KCPS students had their first day of school Aug. 19.
