KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Northeast High School student was shot after breaking into a home near the high school.
According to KCPD public information officer Darin Snapp, around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, two Northeast High School students left the school and tried to break into a home near Brighton and Thompson Avenues. Snapp said the homeowner received a call from his alarm company and rushed home in time to catch the two teenage males. The homeowner then shot one of the students in the ankle. The two attempted to flee the scene and return to school, but were soon taken into custody.
Snapp said the homeowner suffered an ankle injury attempting to chase the two students. He added the home was broken into on Tuesday, Sept. 30, as well.
“It’s possible they broke into the home yesterday to see what he had and returned today,” Snapp said.
Northeast High School and Northeast Middle School were placed on precautionary lock down.
