For four hours on Saturday, Oct. 5, Northeast residents took advantage of multiple locations to drop off bulky items, extra trash bags, used tires, old documents and leaves and brush.
The tire drop off trailer at The Concourse Park (200 Benton Blvd) collected 1.742 tires, while the shredding location at 7806 US-24 (Advance Auto parts parking lot) totaled 1000 pounds.
City trucks collecting bulky trash and yard waste were conveniently located in four neighborhood parks — The Concourse, Budd Park, Lykins Square Park and Sheffield Park — collecting 2000 pounds of brush and 174,165 pounds of trash combined.
This bi-annual drop-off event is sponsored by the Kansas City, City Public Works department, in conjunction with NEAT (Northeast Alliance Together).
“The number for Brush and Shredding is down, but those Trash and Tire numbers are a little higher than average,” said NEAT Director, Scott Wagner.
NEAT and the Public Works department facilitate two cleanups per year — one in the spring and a second date in the fall.
