The top floor of a vacant building off 9th and Spruce collapsed this afternoon.

Hong Nelson, owner of Nelsons Island Liquor and Grocery across the street from the building, told Northeast News the building has been in bad shape since the storms earlier this summer.

Nelson also said she placed a call to the city about the building a couple months ago and after the city came out to take a picture there was no further activity.

Police confirmed no one was hurt or near the building at the time it fell.

The short stretch along East 9th Street where the building collapsed is currently closed off to vehicles.
