KANSAS CITY, Missouri — As soon as pre-demolition boards and permits popped up on one Northeast building, area residents wanted answers.

On Monday, the building, located at 3021 and 3019 Independence Ave., appeared as if it were slated to be demolished at any moment. Later that day, residents were posting to Facebook, trying to find answers on why this building is being demolished. 

A source familiar with the building said the owner has chosen to tear down the building because of structural issues that are beyond repair.

Rumors spread that the building would come down on Tuesday, Oct. 27. However, a representative at Industrial Salvage & Wrecking, the company handling the demolition, said that isn’t the case as they are still gathering the necessary permits needed. Once all the necessary permits are acquired, and weather permitting, demolition could happen within the next couple weeks. Once demolition begins, it’ll have to be done by hand because of the proximity to other buildings nearby.

The Independence Avenue and Benton Boulevard intersection is familiar with demolition. In August 2014, The Rios de Agua Viva church, previously located at 3200 Independence Ave., collapsed with the remainder of the building soon after demolished.
