Northeast Middle School
School’s back from summer break. Monday, Aug. 11, was the official first day of school for elementary, middle and high school students of the Kansas City Public Schools district. The day was extra special for students attending Northeast Middle School, the first time students have roamed its halls since it closed in 2010. Michael Bushnell
Scuola Vita Nuova
Open for school. Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School, founded in 1999, held its ribbon cutting Monday with the help of its founder Charles Shangler and several students who attend the school. Since its formation 15 years ago, the school has expanded to serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Over the past year, the former Don Bosco Senior Center was rehabilitated to host the ever growing school. Joe Jarosz
