A 19 year old Kansas City man has been charged in the August 1st murder of Michael W. Brown in front of a residence in the 5600 block of E. 12th street.
Thorne A. McKendrick of Kansas City has been charged with one count of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action in connection to the fatal shooting.
According to court records, KCPD Officers were dispatched on a reported shooting outside a residence in the 5600 block of E. 12th Street. Upon arrival, police found the victim, lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. Brown was transported to an area hospital where he
later died of his injuries.
Security footage shows the defendant ride up on a bicycle, then get into the back seat of a vehicle parked in front of the residence. The
victim is seen exiting the residence and walking to the vehicle when
defendant gets out of the vehicle. The victim grabbed the defendant from behind. The suspect can be seen reaching for his waistband as the victim takes the suspect to the ground. The suspect then shoots the victim, leaving him lie in the street has he fled east on 12th street then north on Topping on foot.
Witnesses, including the victim’s father viewed the security footage and identified the defendant as the person who shot the victim. The victim’s father also indicated he had tried to mentor the suspect earlier in his life when they were neighbors.
