The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) wants your ideas on how to improve I-70 between The Paseo interchange and the Blue Ridge Cutoff interchange in Kansas City.
Built more than 50 years ago, I-70 has outlasted its original design life of 20 years, thanks to proper maintenance. However, due to its age, the interstate is experiencing deteriorating pavement and bridges, traffic delays, congestion and weaving conflicts at merging interchanges.
MoDOT is currently conducting the I-70 Second Tier Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) study aimed at finding ways to improve safety and conditions of I-70. The Second Tier study builds upon the First Tier study of I-70. The Second Tier study will last approximately 30 months and will conclude in the spring of 2014.
Citizens are being asked to participate in several ways. A public meeting will be held Tuesday, April 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gregg/Klice Community Center, 1600 John “Buck” O’Neil Way, Kansas City, Mo. Attendees can share concerns and suggestions for improving I-70 concerns as well as learn more about the study from the study team. You can also share your ideas through MindMixer, an online public engagement tool, at www.metroi70.com. Current questions on the site include, “What do you think about I-70 in Kansas City?”, “What is your biggest safety concern with I-70?”, “What is the most congested area along I-70?”, among other questions.
