JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri – Missouri’s Great Flood of 1993 re-visiting an epic natural disaster, a book written by celebrated outdoors writer Ken Kieser and published by The Northeast News has scored some major recognition on the state level.
State Representative John Rizzo recognized publisher Michael Bushnell and author Ken Kieser on the floor of the House earlier this month, noting the comprehensive overview of the 1993 flood the book covers.
“This book is an amazing document of history that takes a detailed look at the destruction the Missouri River caused during what some still refer to as the 500 year flood,” Rizzo said.
The book was the brainchild of Kieser who, during the flood, took hundreds of pictures for the United States Geological Survey and the National Guard.
“We really wanted to tell the stories of, not only the destruction the flood wrought, but also spotlight the lives that were forever effected by the 1993 flood along the Missouri River Valley,” Kieser said.
The resolution was read on the House floor and accepted by the book’s publisher, Michael Bushnell. It’s available locally at area Barnes & Noble bookstores and at independent book retailers along the Missouri River Valley.
