Roughly 100 volunteers with Students Today, Leaders Forever [STLF], descended onto North Terrace Park on a frosty Sunday morning to remove invasive honeysuckle, which is considered an invasive weed by the Missouri Conservation Department, from the wooded areas above Cliff Drive. In order to prevent the return of the Honeysuckle, the chemical Tandol was dabbed on the newly cut stumps.The group was led by Brett Shoffner, who was assisted by Bill Fezzler, the city’s Parks and Recreation representative. The volunteers wrapped up a five day, “Pay it Forward” community service trip that departed the Minneapolis/St. Paul area on Thursday, Feb. 13. The multi-city tour participated in community service projects in Mason City, Iowa; Milan, Chillicothe and Kansas City, Mo. before returning to the twin cities area on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Through the course of Sunday’s work, a number of old trail markers were found, including some concrete boundary posts that dated back to the 1950’s.
