For the four-member Latin band Making Movies, hosting a weeklong summer youth music camp wasn’t enough. Now, they want to offer one-on-one lessons at the Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping, through December 5.
The after school music program began earlier this month and gives youth ages 10 to 18 the opportunity to hone their music skills, whether that’s singing or playing the guitar, bass or piano.
“After seeing the success and response of our yearly summer camp, we wanted to give kids the opportunity to continue their musical journey,” said Enrique Chi of Making Movies.
One youth who signed up for vocals at the summer youth camp became inspired by what she witnessed at camp and purchased a guitar when camp ended, he said.
“The weekly program gives her an affordable outlet to continue learning,” he said.
Slots are still available and include a 30-minute one-on-one lesson with professional instructors every Wednesday. Beginner to advanced are welcome to attend. Cost is $5 for the month or $15 for 12 weeks.
To sign up, visit the Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping, Kansas City, Mo., or call (816) 241-3780.
