KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A man who was shot and killed during a street robbery near the intersection of St. John and Cypress on Tuesday, November 22 has been identified as 35-year-old Corey Walls.
Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to the 4400 block of St. John and discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. According to police on the scene, the man was walking down the street when he was approached by another man with a handgun. The victim was shot in the torso, and the robber fled the scene on foot with some of the victim’s property. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition. Just before 8:00 a.m., however, Kansas City Police provided an update to earlier reports, revealing that the victim had been pronounced dead at the hospital. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
The suspect is described as a Black male, unknown age. Anyone with any information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
The homicide was not the only time shots were fired this morning in the Northeast. Shortly after the initial incident, at 5:32 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Bellefontaine and Anderson. Officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate a scene and/or victims. Just before 6:00 a.m. an additional shots fired call was made regarding the sound of gunfire – one witness reported four or five shots, while another reported eight to ten – heard near Anderson and Cypress. The responding officers were not able to locate anything in regards to that incident.
