KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A man who shot four people during a summer birthday party in the Northeast has been charged with nine felonies.
According to a press release from the office of Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, Jose L. Yepes-Zavala, 41, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, a class A felony; four counts of armed criminal action, a felony; two counts of first-degree assault, a A felony; and one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a class D felony.
According to court records, police were called early the morning of July 26, 2015, on a reported shooting in the 400 block of Colorado Ave. Upon arrival, police found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two — Antonio Hernandez, 31, and Omero Garcia, 39 — were killed in the shooting. The two other victims who were shot survived. One victim told police that a man know as “Yepes” shot him. An altercation occurred during a party when shooting began. Another witness identified Yepes as the person shooting.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $500,000 for Yepes, who is not in custody. Police believe he has fled the area.
